William Flewin was born in Farningham, Kent on 2 April 1828 and was baptised there on 1 June the same year. His whereabouts has not been discovered in the 1841 census.
William married Mary Ann Davis in Farningham on 15 October 1850. His occupation at that time was a labourer. The 1851 census shows William and Mary Ann living in Farningham village where William was an agricultural labourer.
Son Henry Wiliam was born in 1851 then daughters Rosina in 1854 and Louisa Annie in 1857. The 1861 census records tha family living at Elizabeth Place in Farningham. Son Albert Ernest was born in 1862 and Alfred Ernest in 1866 then, just a few months later, on 2 April 1866, William died in an accident whilst he and his brothers were sinking a new a well in Fawkham. Despite his brothers concerns, William descended 205 feet to the bottom of the excavation without taking precautions and was overcome with foul air. An inquest was held at Farningham on Friday 6 April 1866 where a verdict of accidental death was recorded. He was buried in Farningham on 8 April.
William's wife Mary died two years later on 11 August 1868 leaving their children orphaned. Son Henry joined the army whilst the girls were placed in Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol and the two young boys, Albert and Arthur, went to the Home for Litle Boys in Farningham.
