Gladys May Fifoot was born in Cardiff, Glamorganshire on 28 Dec 1887, the eldest of the three children of Frank and Thomasine Fifoot. The census of
1891 shows the family living at 68 Stacey Road in the Roath district of Cardiff. By 1901 they had moved to 15 Richmond Crescent in Cardiff and by 1911 they were at 34 Newport Road in Cardiff.

Gladys married Donald Newcombe Rowe in Cardiff in 1923. They had no children and sadly Donald died in 1926.

In 1938, Gladys made a trip to USA. On 23 July she left Liverpool aboard Donaldson Atlantic Line ship Letitia bound for Montreal. From there, she crossed into USA to a destination that is not known. She returned home from Montreal aboard Cunard White Star ship Andania, arriving back in Liverpool on 17 Sep 1938.

According to the 1939 register, Gladys was living at Westways, Ty-Gwyn Crescent, Cardiff, the home of her widowed mother Thomasine and Gladys' unmarried sister Doris was also living there. Gladys' occupation is listed as "Unpaid domestic duties".

The electoral register for 1955 shows Gladys and Doris at the same address. Also there was a lady called Lily Burrows who it is assumed was a lodger.

Gladys was still living at Westways when she passed away on 16 March 1963. Her effects amounted to £9,957 16s and probate was granted at Llandaff on 17 June 1963. Her sister Doris remained living at the house.
