Lillian Rose Birtchnell was born in Kentish Town, Middlesex on 1 July 1877, the youngest of the four children of Edward and Emily Birtchnell. She was known as Lily.
She can not be found in the census of 1881 but in the 1891 census, she was shown as living with her uncle and aunt John and Lizzie Vaughan at 20 Grove Road in Sevenoaks, Kent.
The census of 1901 shows Lily living with her famiy at 6 Darenth House in Eynsford, Kent and she was working as a pack porter at the local paper mill.
On 12 July 1903, Lillian married William Richard Smith at Eynsford parish church. Daughter Lillian Mary was born in 1906, Edith Emily in 1908 and son William Leonard in 1910. The 1911 census shows this family living at 1 Willington Road in Dartford. Son John R was born in 1912, daughter Rose H in 1914 and Alma G in 1918.
Rose and William were living at "The Bungalow" in Lowfield Road, Dartford at the time of her death on 16 February 1937. Their son John was living with them.
