Profile Index for BARRATT

Harrietta Barratt was born at 9 Albert Place in Shoreditch on 13 March 1863. There was some confusion of the naming of Harrietta as it was entered on the birth certificate as Henrietta then altered.

The census of 1871 shows Harrietta with her parents and siblings living at 32 Shepherdess Walk in Hoxton, Middlesex. When the census was taken in 1881, Harrietta, listed as Etty, and her sister Maria were at 30 and 32 Shepherdess Walk, which was then the home of their brother George William and his family, their parents having moved away to Crouch Hill.

Harrietta's name was entered as Henrietta on the census of 1891. She was visiting the home of her sister Jane Eliza and family at 47 High Street, Guildford, Surrey.

Harrietta had been living with her brother Albert at Oak Lodge, 262 Green Lanes in Finsbury Park when she married German national Adolf Wilhelm August Johannes Langweische. The service was held at St.Olave's church in Stoke Newington on 9 March 1896. Her name was entered in the register as Nenrietta, so that would seem to have been her choice.

It seems that Henrietta and her husband settled in Germany as no information has been found following her marriage. They had one child, son Paul Erwin. Henrietta was a beneficiary in her father's Will in which she received a considerable amount of property in London.

Henrietta would appear to have remained in Germany which may have been difficult during the period leading up to and throughout World War 1. Henrietta was living at 57 Coblenzerstrasse, Godesberg in Germany when she died on 26 April 1918. Letters of Administration on her Will were not completed until 31 March 1933 by which time her wealth had dwindled to just £20. However, the remainder would have passed into the hands of her husband then their son.
