Profile Index for BARRATT

Ada Barratt was born at 32 Shepherdess Walk in Hoxton New Town, Middlesex on 13 April 1870. She was the last born of the thirteen children of George and Sarah Barratt. The census of 1871 shows Ada with her parents and siblings still living at the same address.

Ada's whereabouts when the 1881 census was taken has not been found. However, at the time of the next census in 1891, she and her sister Harrietta were visiting their sister Jane Eliza Drewett and her family at 47 High Street, Guildford, Surrey.

Ada married Oliver Reeves in Addiscombe, Surrey on 24 April 1897. Oliver was her cousin, brother of her Aunt Milly. They were living at 37 Hillmarton Road in Islington when their daughter Olive Barratt was born in 1899. The census of 1901 has not revealed their whereabouts. Daughter Barbara was born in 1902.

In 1906, Ada was a beneficiary in her father's Will in which she received a considerable amount of property in London and elsewhere plus income from freehold ground rent on other property.

The census of 1911 shows the family living at 252 Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, Middlesex. In the household also were companion Nellie Diprose, cook Sarah Verrier and housemaid Annie Burt. They were still at the same address when Ada completed the census form in 1921. At that time, she and husband Oliver were at home with both children together and both companion Helena M B Diprose and cook Sarah J Verrier were still with them.

The 1939 register records Ada and her husband Oliver living at 176 Lordship Road in Stoke Newington, Middlesex. With them was daughter Barbara who had remained unmarried.

Ada died on 29 October 1940.
